The Tasting Room is Open! | Food Theory Thursday


It's here!!!  We are so THRILLED to share our new offices and venue with you all!  The Tasting Room had its Grand Opening on Tuesday and it was amazing - Great food, gorgeous venue, and fabulous people!  You can't get better than that!  Without further ado, take a look at The Tasting Room, starting with the menu which was TO DIE FOR!!! Gorgeous, right!?  We are so happy to call this space our home and share offices with the fantastic people of Events by LMG and Pepper Nix Photography!  This is truly a dream come true and we are so lucky to have such a beautiful and unique venue in downtown Salt Lake City!!!  Mary would also like to offer a special thanks to her friend, Chef Eric Levine, for his inspiration and recipes which gave her so many great ideas for this special night. Tea Trolley Love | Food Theory Thursday


Recently, we here at Culinary Crafts attended the 2012 Catersource conference in Las Vegas and it was AMAZING!  And, as usual, there was SO much beauty and inspiration about, we were thrilled to be a part of it all!  As an added bonus, we were able to sample some of the fantastic restaurants that find a home in Las Vegas.  For example, Culinary Crafts's wedding planner extraodinairé, Holly Fowler, dined at the world famous Joël Robuchon at the MGM Grand.  Not only was the food amazing, they had a show stopping Tea Trolley. (Yes, I said Tea Trolley!)  This cart, named Le Thé, boasts all the normal accoutrements you would expect for your tea, with a twist.  Among the honey, sugar, and cream, are fresh, living, potted herbs from which you can create your own custom tea blend that is the freshest brewed this side of the Mississippi!  Thyme, peppermint, lemongrass, spearmint, and more, the combinations are virtually endless.  Once you select your herbs, they are hand cut, washed, and steeped.  How fabulous and refreshing does that sound?  Sign me up!  I really love the constant creativity and experimentation we find all over in the culinary world and how much we here at Culinary Crafts love to try new things and break out of the box.  There is always something new to try and something more to 'wow' our clients!  And, who knows?  Maybe you'll see a Tea Trolley of our own at a breakfast buffet or brunch coming soon!  :)  Happy Thursday everyone! Mini Appetizers & Drinks! | Food Theory Thursday


Hi all!  Today I want to share a really cool trend I see in catering right now.  Serving your appetizers with a perfectly paired mini beverage!  Not only is it tasty, but it quenches your guests appetite and thirst!  And, luckily for you, I have a whole bunch of awesome examples to show you!  Take a look! Starting at the top from left to right: Chianti and Beef Pot Roast, Fried Chicken and Coca-Cola, Chocolate Donuts and Milk, Fried Oysters and a Blood Orange Mojito, Mini Tacos and Patron, Sugared Donuts and Hot Chocolate, Ahi Tacos and Margaritas, Ale and Short Rib Sandwiches, Beer and Beef Tenderloin, Brownie and Chocolate Milkshake, Milk and Cookie, Sugared Donuts and Espresso, and PB&Js with Milk So cool, right?  And completely delicious!  But, there are so many more options!  How about a mini slider with a milkshake?  Or a cherry coke?  Or sushi with a mini sake shooter?  Caprese salad with basil lemonade? Fried chicken and sweet tea? Mini Champagne bottles and a macaron?  Seriously, the possibilities are endless!  If you are thinking about serving appetizers at your event, you should definitely consider pairing it with a mini beverage to take it up a notch!  Your guests will be impressed (and grateful) that you've thought of it! DIY Cake Pops | Food Theory Thursday


Today, our head pastry chef Jocelyn was kind enough to share her "how-to" on making easy cake pops for any occasion!  Seriously, this is the easiest thing ever and they are DELICIOUS!  Take a look! Guy Savoy Bread Pairing | Food Theory Thursday


Today, I'd like to share with you one of the most decadent (and possibly expensive) restaurants in Las Vegas.  Guy Savoy, headed by the much lauded chef of the same name, is French dining at its pinnacle with the finest in quality and in presentation.  Not only can you count on 10 courses of fabulous food, but each of these courses is paired with a gourmet artisan bread, hand sliced table side for your perfectly paired flavor enjoyment!  Mary recently dined at this restaurant and HAD to try this bread pairing to see if it was really all the rage, and let me tell you, it WAS.  Its not just any old wheat bread they are serving up either.  It is artfully crafted breads that are created to blend delightfully with each of the courses specifically.  Crispy Sea Bass with Delicate Spices paired with a Lemon Bread?  Delicately complex and perfect.  Artichoke and Black Truffle soup paired with Mushroom  Brioche?  Divine.  Marinated Lobster with Seaweed Ciabatta Bread?  Unexpected and wonderful.  Attention to detail is definitely a must here!  They even had an artist create specialty serving accoutrement for each course, so even the china is GORGEOUS!  This meal was definitely a one of a kind event (and at about $290 a person for the prestige menu, it may not be everyone's cup of tea), but we see that all elements of a menu should be taken into consideration to create a symphony of delciousness.  We here at Culinary Crafts definitely take this to heart and have been offering "bread pairings" with our stations before it was so in vogue.  Our passion for detail and perfect orchestration is as apparent in every one of our events just as each course of Guy Savoy's prestige menu is.  We hope this inspires you to thoughtfully and artfully prepare your next meal - it is SO worth it!  Happy eating everyone! Spotlight On: Jocelyn Ball | Food Theory Thursday


Hi all!  Today I would like to do a shout out to our very newest pastry chef, Jocelyn Ball!  We are so excited to have Jocelyn and are constantly amazed at her creativity, artistry, and palette!  Her over the top cake bites, breads, cookies, cakes, macarons, parfait shooters, and cupcakes are DIVINE and ensure that we at Culinary Crafts consistently give our clients the tastiest and yummiest offerings in the world!  We are even more thrilled at the new things she's created like the Salted Caramel Blondies, Cappuccino Browines, and Single Serve Pies in a Jar!  I can't wait to show these tasty new delights in the events to come!  A giant thank you to you, Jocelyn!  You are amazing and we are so happy to have you be a part of the Culinary Crafts family!  Happy baking everyone! Top 10 Park City Restaurant Picks | Food Theory Thursday


It's our last "Best of" Restaurant list for 2012 with Mary's Top 10 Park City picks!  Take it away, Mary! I always say if you can make it on Park City's Main Street, you can make it anywhere.  People expect excellent service with a friendly Utah flare and while they also expect things to cost a bit more, the quality is always worth it!  Always a relaxing atmosphere, never stuffy, and cowboy boots are appropriate dress!  I love it!  Mary's Top 10 Park City Restaurants Bill White's legendary restaurants still dominate Main Street and are still on my Top 10 list year after year. Starting with: Best Italian - Grappa Best Southwest - Chimayo Best Asian - Wahso There are several great Asian restaurants that I love, however.  Shabu, who you may have heard about (they get tons of press!) and Yuki Arashi, which is less known, but chock full of fabulous creative cuisine! Best Steak On The Street - Riverhorse (A Park City Icon) Best Casual Without Spending Your Cash Roll - Zoom Best Chef in Park City - Jean Louis (Who is opening his own restaurant on Main Street!  So exciting!)
