Setting the Perfect Table

By Kaleb Crafts Whether you are planning a corporate function, your big wedding day or just entertaining your closest friends for an intimate dinner party, the table setting sets the tone for the event more than almost anything else. Here are a few tips to help you think through Setting the Perfect Table for your event.

The Linen

The right tablecloth or linen is the first thing down on the table. A clean, crisp, white, linen that hangs just to the floor can be a great fit for any event, but get creative. Bring some colors in, use some unique patterns or fabrics. Don't hesitate to get out the sewing machine and quickly hem or surge an edge on your favorite fabric. Add a pop of color with a runner or additional cloth overlay. Be mindful of textures and how they go together. Consider renting your linens. BBJ Linen is one of our favorite places to get cutting edge linens!

The Centerpiece

Get creative with your arrangements. Fresh florals can be used in almost any situation of Setting the Perfect Table and tailored to fit the feel of the party. However, don't be tied down to florals alone, add in votive candles, tiles, mirrors, beads, etc. For themed parties, use anything from sports caps to wood boxes to tiki torches. One thing to keep in mind is that while a tall and wide centerpiece will certainly be breathtaking at first glance, it can detract from table conversation once guests are seated. If it blocks the view of guests who are opposite one another, it can be bothersome.  Here are some of our favorite experts to get centerpieces!

The Serviceware

Pick a china pattern that fits the event. If you have space and budget, add a charger or service plate to the place setting. The flatware should look cohesive with the china and be set according to common etiquette. An entire book could be written about place setting etiquette, so I won't go into too much detail. But keep the flatware half an inch from the edge of the table and work outside in, meaning that the flatware should be placed in the order it will be used throughout dinner service working from the outside towards the plate. I love this picture from that shows a traditional formal setting. In most circumstances, you won't have all of these pieces set and you won't set more than 3 pieces of flatware to left and right of the plate at a time, but this shows where the appropriate location for pretty much anything you could think of would go.  If you wish to rent china for Setting the Perfect Table check out one of our favorite places to rent here.

The Accouterments

It is always helpful to think through the evening and plan the additional needs on the table accordingly. Salt and pepper shakers, water pitchers, place cards, table numbers, etc. Keep in mind that the additional items placed on the table may clutter the clutter and detract from the rest of the table.   I hope these quick tips help you at your next big event and remember, life is too short to eat bad food.   Check out more Salt Lake City, Park City, and Utah County catering at!

Rustic Unique Red Cliff Ranch Wedding!

This warmer weather has the team here at Culinary Crafts jones-ing for summer!  So, with that vibe in mind, today we have a Rustic Unique Red Cliff Ranch wedding to share with you.  This romantically rustic wedding was full of beautiful touches - and we aren't surprised because it was expertly planned and designed by one of our favorite vendor partners, FUSE Weddings & Events!  Add in pretty photos from Alixann Loosle Photography  and you have a winning combo!  Check it out! CC_Laura&Charley What a pretty bridal party!  Aren't those bridesmaid dresses gorgeous?! CC_Laura&Charley2 And, talk about beauty!  How about this lace detail on the bride's gown??  Plus, didn't Artisan Bloom create a picture perfect bouquet?  LOVE! CC_Laura&Charley3 One of our favorite parts of this Rustic Unique Red Cliff Ranch wedding is this meadow with the red cliffs (for which is was named) that tower behind the ceremony site.  Such a breathtaking backdrop! CC_Laura&Charley4 Of course, on this warm summer day, we made sure the guests had a great place to hang out during cocktail hour.  We served beverages and hors d'oeuvres that kept the guests mingling and happy until dinner was served. CC_Laura&Charley5 Pulled Pork Sliders and  Prociutto Wrapped Utah Peaches were just a couple of the delicious bites our awesome team butler passed to guests!  So yummy! CC_Laura&Charley6 We also created this AMAZING cheese board with local Slide Ridge honeycomb!  Such a hit! CC_Laura&Charley7 Isn't this reception space BEAUTIFUL?!  FUSE Weddings & Events never disappoints!  And those florals by Artisan Bloom?  Gorgeous! CC_Laura&Charley8 A simple, yet elegant, place setting was the perfect addition to this romantic table.  Plus, we love the added touch of Karli Noel's handdrawn calligraphy that let guests know where their seat was! CC_Laura&Charley9 CC_Laura&Charley10 The couple chose to serve the dinner 'family-style' which, as you know, Culinary Crafts loves!  We started with Artisan Breads like Black Peppercorn Cheddar, Beer Bread, and Corn Muffins with Utah Sea Salt Crusted Creamery Butters.  We also served Roasted Beet Salad with Snuck Farms Fresh Greens, Goat Cheese, Utah Pistachios & Citrus Honey Vinaigrette; Grilled Sweet Potatoes with Olive Oil, Cracked Pepper, and Sea Salt; Mesquite-Grilled Utah Red Trout with Tomato, Basil and Ricotta Risotto; Chicken Paillard with Napa Salad, Daikon, Mango and Mint; and finally Grilled Skirt Steak Cumin-Coriander Mushrooms, and Parsley Sauce.  SOOO good! CC_Laura&Charley11 CC_Laura&Charley12 To follow up that AMAZING dinner, of course we had to create a decadent dessert bar - just like this one! CC_Laura&Charley13 Chocolate Pot de Creme with Vanilla Whipped Cream and Mason Jar Berry Cobblers with Fresh Whipped Cream?  Yes, please! CC_Laura&Charley14 Plus, House Made Gelato?  You bet! CC_Laura&Charley15 We also made some 'late-night' snacks like these Mini Grilled Cheese Bites!  The guests LOVED them! CC_Laura&Charley16 And, you can't have a ranch wedding without an AMAZING s'mores bar, just like this one!  The guests always have so much fun making these treats by the fire! This was SUCH a fun wedding and we are so grateful to all of the amazing vendors who made this day such a gorgeous one!  I hope this inspires you to plan some dreamy ranch weddings, everyone!  Happy planning! The Craft(s) Launch Party!

Today, I have a really special blog that is close to the Culinary Crafts team's hearts - our launch party for the new series, The Craft(s)!  It debuted recently (hopefully, you all saw it!) and, in true Culinary Crafts fashion, we had a FANTASTIC launch party to get y'all excited for this amazing series!  For all of those who couldn't join us, we are sad you couldn't party with us, and for those who were able to join us, thank you and we hope this reminds you of this fun night!  Check it out! CC_LaunchParty Of course, we hosted the event at our downtown venue, The Tasting Room!  Such a perfect fit and we loved the decor!  We decided to go with a modern, industrial feel - and aren't these tables cool?  Love it! CC_LaunchParty2 We decided to create action stations that represented each episode in the series.  For each station, we created a dish as well as a cocktail that perfectly represented the theme and this station "Smoke" was so much fun!  The Smoked Maple Bourbon Sour Cocktail was AMAZING!  The creation of the drink was a pretty awesome show too! CC_LaunchParty3 We got to really pull out the creative guns on this one.  The Smoked Short Rib with a Smoked Demi Glace was put in a smoking chamber to infuse the meat with even more smoky goodness.  After it was properly infused, we placed it atop our Purple Potato Puree to finish the dish!  YUM! CC_LaunchParty4 Next up?  Our "Fire" station!  Of course, we brought some flame to this station!  Our Fireside Signature Cocktail was set aflame and our guests loved it! CC_LaunchParty5 Next we served Flambed Ramen with our Killer Broth with Chef-Torched Beef, Fire Grilled Peppers, and a Sesame Chili Sauce.  Perfect! CC_LaunchParty6 This is our Flaming Pumpkin Meringue Pie - which was SO delicious.  And our "Fashion" station served Housemade Ricotta and Squash Ravioli.  Such a decadently elegant dish! CC_LaunchParty7 Of course, while you are perusing the stations (because there are more to come - you better believe it), we had butler passed hors-d'oeuvres!  These Mini Brie Grilled Cheese Sandwiches with Pomegranate Arils and the Crostini with Goat Cheese and Poached Pear Compote were so good! CC_LaunchParty9 Of course, we had to pay our homage to apples!  Utah boasts some of the best local apples ANYWHERE and we try to use them anyway we can!  The "Apple" station included Crispy Pork Belly with Whipped Cider Ricotta and Sous-Vide Cooked Apple Relish PLUS an apple dessert trio!  The Apple Pie on a Stick, Poached Apples with Mascarpone, and Apple Sorbet with a Dried Apple Chip were all divine! CC_LaunchParty10 BUTTER, need I say more?  This station included Butter Poached Scallops with a Brussel Sprout Slaw and Citrus Beurre Blanc as well as a bread station (mmm, carbs) with an assortment of house-made breads and house made compound butters and garnishes.  I'll admit, I tried EVERY SINGLE OPTION.  No regrets. CC_LaunchParty8 Last, but certainly not least, we include a station that gave a nod to one of our signature offerings, our House Made gelato!  The "Gelato" station included an Olive Oil Gelato with Balsamic Poached Pears Garnished with Sea Salt, Red Wine Gelato with Chocolate Shortbread, and Salted Caramel Gelato which we used in either a Porter Float OR a Root Beer Float!  Plus, to balance all of the sweetness this station has to offer, we brought in our Coffee Nerd Coffee Bar with cold brew and french press coffees!  Such a delicious treat and our guests LOVED the interesting flavors! CC_LaunchParty11 We are SO excited for our new series - and if you haven't watched the first episode, we hope you check it out!  (You can see it here.)  We are so thankful to each and every one of you who has helped us get to this AMAZING place in our business!  We are so happy to be able to bring you this new venture and also keep creating new and inventive culinary trends!  Happy viewing, everyone! REPOST: A Modern Asian-Themed Wedding at The Leonardo Museum

We revisit this colorful and contemporary celebration featured in the pages of our magazine.

In celebration of Chinese New Year this weekend, we’re #FBF-ing to Candice Yee & Eric Bender’s Real Utah Wedding featured in our Summer/Fall 2013 issue. The “Modern Shanghai” and “Upscale Chinatown” themed wedding at The Leonardo Museum in downtown Salt Lake City—planned and designed by FUSE Weddings & Events—was inspired by the couple’s love of travel and Asian street food. Culinary Crafts recreated some of the duo’s favorite eats for the cocktail hour, including skewered shrimp satay, pork pot stickers, and Thai-style fish cakes served with chopsticks in take-out containers lined with Chinese newspaper. The morning of the big day the couple held a traditional Chinese tea ceremony, a nod to the bride’s family’s heritage. During the reception, Yee swapped her Vera Wang gown for a traditional red Chinese dress. The couple later departed among a sea of sparklers and glowing Chinese Kongming paper lanterns. Read the couple’s love story + wedding details here, and see more photos of their festivities here!

Featured in the newly debuted Utah Valley Bride magazine! Check it out! UVB_AltCakesFeature2017 This feature was SO fun because they showcased 5 different alternative cakes by 5 different culinary artisans, but it didn't just end there!  They used each spectacular cake to inspire a theme for it's own vignette - all photographed beautifully by Elisha Braithwaite Photography! UVB_AltCakesFeature20172 Our Cheese Wheel cake was pretty AMAZING (if we do say so ourselves) and the 'Modern Italian' theme was certainly right up our alley!  With a fantastic vendor team to put the visions together, well, we were just blown away! UVB_AltCakesFeature20173 Between the coordination skills of Utah Valley Bride, the design & styling talent of Sage and Thistle Events and the amazing florist, The Potted Pansy, didn't this turn out just BEAUTIFULLY?!  Our cake fit perfectly, don't you think?
