One Sweet Slice | Vendor Spotlight

By

I am very excited to spotlight one of Culinary Craft's favorite vendors, One Sweet SliceOne Sweet Slice is a super delicious purveyor of sweet treats and AMAZING custom cakes!  Did I mention they also won Best of State this year and are Cupcake Wars winners?  (Yes, Food Network's Cupcake Wars!)  As a true enthusiast of all things delectable, I made it a point to try their FABULOUS cupcakes at one of their bakeries across the valley and I was not disappointed!  (I had a chocolate raspberry - but honestly all of them looked so good I was deciding for a good ten minutes.)  So not only do they make these tasty bites in their day to day business, but they create one-of-a-kind custom wedding cakes to boot!  We are always astounded by the gorgeous creations that they come up with.  Here are just a few of our favorites that we were lucky to have at Culinary Crafts events recently! rayna+dominic_679 Rayna & Dominic's showstopper of a cake was the centerpiece of their dramatic reception at UMFA.  A true stunner accented with those gorgeous red blooms! OneSweetSlice3 This bold and whimsical birthday cake was the perfect addition to Karen Huntsman's 75th birthday!  We loved the bright and fun color palette and loved all of the detail that One Sweet Slice added! OneSweetSlice4 Emily & Richard's gilded cake was so pretty!  You know we love gold, but the mint really set it off and those sugar flowers are to die for! OneSweetSlice5 Adrienne & Tyson's modern wedding was full of fun details!  Look at their cross-stitched cake topper!  We loved their navy, pink, and yellow palette and loved the geometric honeycomb pattern that One Sweet Slice incorporated into their cake!  How fun! As you can see, One Sweet Slice is AWESOME and can make any type of cake!  You should definitely check them out for your event!  Also, if you are a home baker who wants to hone their skills, Janell Brown, the owner of One Sweet Slice, wrote a book to be released very soon with tips and tricks to creating the perfect cupcakes at home!  Yum!  Happy baking everyone! Creative Coverings Linen Preview Party!

By

We recently had the distinct honor of hosting Creative Coverings's Linen Preview Party at our downtown venue, The Tasting Room!  We at Culinary Crafts LOVE the variety and style offered by Creative Coverings and we simply floored by the new styles they showed off!  From striking graphics, to Gatsby inspired, and every gorgeous detail in between, we just couldn't wait to show you their wares!  And brides, make sure to watch out for the next one in fall!  We'll be holding these twice a year and you'll be invited to check out the new trends, linens, and some delicious bites from Culinary Crafts!  In the meantime, check out our inaugural party! LinenParty Mojitos, anyone?  We also loved this quick pick of the hostesses of the event - Kate of Creative Coverings, Mary of Culinary Crafts, and Mara of Events by LMG! LinenParty2 The high boys we super stars with their various and vastly different linens!  I LOVED the intricate gold and pink overly - perfect for a gal looking for total GLAM!  Oh, and check out that blue tumbler glass- it's STUNNING! LinenParty3 Isn't this chair tie to die for?  Couple that with the ornate overlay and golden plates and you have a ultra-sophisticated take on a natural palette.  Who says natural has to be boring? LinenParty4 Of course we had to bring some TASTY morsels for the party goers!  Passed hors d'oeuvres we a wonderful way to keep guests moving a checking out the samples.  Plus, they were delish! LinenParty5 Another GORGEOUS way to dress up a chair!  I love the woven technique on this Chivari chair that is an unexpected touch of texture.  Plus. its quiet elegance really lets the bold coral runner with the yellow chevron overlay take center stage!  Coupled with the green glass goblet - we are in LOVE!  Have I mentioned that colored glass is one of my newest favorite trends?  Keep your eyes out for more! LinenParty6 This table was perfectly appointed with beautiful aqua silk linens and the Moroccan style graphic overlays are simply perfect.  One way to take a table from pretty to WOW is by adding a punch of a powerful overlay - and this patterned lovely is just the ticket!  With pops of pure white dishes with clean lines - this table is modern, elegant, and AMAZING!  And the white wine glass is another new glassware favorite for this year! LinenParty7 Another FABULOUS chair tie!  Plus, I love the sheer sparkle of the blush pink runner atop a vineyard table.  You don't always have to go rustic with the vineyard tables - they definitely are versatile and can be beautiful in SO many ways - especially this feminine, romantic style - with just a hint of glitz! LinenParty8 Hello bold patterns!  This linen is for one who loves bold, graphic styles and big punches of color!  So, you know I totally dig it.  Plus the texture of the charger is divine and perfectly ties in with this colors in the linen.  A great idea to mix it up by adding a few of these linens to an otherwise solid color linen line-up. LinenParty9 These new dishes are so pretty!  I love the delicate scroll detail and the gorgeous, feminine lines.  Perfect for the vintage bride!  Plus their netural color lends itself to pretty much ANY color palette! Vendor Spotlight: Metro Music Club

By

As wedding season ramps up, we are starting to get many brides asking for suggestions of great vendors to hire that we at Culinary Crafts LOVE working with.  Well, when it comes to music at the event, there are two distinct camps on the matter - live band or DJ?  It all comes down to personal preference, really.  But if you are looking for a live band - definitely check out Metro Music Club!  We love their energy and AMAZING talent they offer! We've been fans of Joslyn (one of the vocal powerhouses of MMC) for a LONG time. In fact, our very own Mary Crafts-Homer would have no other set of pipes but Joslyn's at her son Kaleb Crafts's wedding! She is seriously fabulous and we were blown away by Metro Music Club's promo video and think that they would be a great addition to any event!  Definitely check it out!  Happy listening everyone! RubySnap | Favorite Finds Friday

By

Today, I'd like to share one of my favorite spots for cookies in Utah!  RubySnap (formerly My Dough Girl) has a superb mix of delicious delights not found in your average cookies.  For example, the Vivianna is a citrus dough with pieces of dark chocolate and mango throughout.  Not your average cookie! (But seriously, how AMAZING does that sound?!?)  Not to mention, these would be perfect for a wedding!!!  They are scrumptious and would be great as DIY wedding favors.  So cute!  Or if you are wanting to do your own dessert buffet or candy table, these gourmet cookies will definitely add a professional touch. I love that each cookie has a name and a pin up to accompany it!  Such a fabulous idea and what woman wouldn't want her best qualities translated into a drop dead DELICIOUS cookie?  I know I would!  I also love that RubySnap only uses the best ingredients to make the best cookies.  Here's their philosophy, straight from the owner, Tami: "Pursuit of the palette we say! If it isn’t wonderful, it doesn’t belong in your mouth. As far as we’re concerned, it’s a sin to add any unnatural ingredient that would compromise the wholesome goodness we demand. At every turn we use the finest ingredients, from our selection of eggs and dairy, down to our choice of high quality chocolates, and premium dried fruits and nuts. Come fall in love all over again with truly enjoyable cookies!" You will seriously fall in love with every cookie at RubySnap!  And if you've been racking your brains for the perfect wedding favor, look no further!  Your guests will be delighted to receive these gems!!!  Happy planning! Scenemakers : Vendor Love | Wednesday Wisdom

By

At Culinary Crafts, we have catered hundreds of events and one of the most important things that we have found to make an event flawless is hiring the top notch vendors.  One of those vendors is definitely Scenemakers!  We work with them all the time and they continually astound and AMAZE us!  We love them so much, they even did ALL of the florals for Mary's wedding reception (which is featured in the new Utah Bride and Groom Magazine)!  Their talent doesn't stop there.  From site design, event design, planning, set up, florals, and concept, they do it all.  And they do it FLAWLESSLY.  We'd like to showcase the florals they've provided on two of our favorite events ever, Lauren Magelby's vintage romantic wedding, and Mary Crafts-Homers fantastic wedding reception (natch)! Scenemakers has always been one of our favorites, but recently, working with them has gotten EVEN better!  Freddie Kessler (who actually worked with Scenemakers previously) is back!  She is AMAZING and year after year, Mary and Freddie carefully craft the most divine and most gorgeous of Utah weddings.  They easily create THE weddings of the year - every year.  We hope you check out what Scenemakers could do for you.  You won't be disappointed!  Happy planning!

Wednesday Wisdom: Spotlight on Distinctive Inscriptions Calligraphy

By

Today I'd like to share one of our favorite (and brand new!) vendors with you!  Its none other than Distinctive Inscriptions Calligraphy!  The owner, Ashantai, is a master of his craft and we are so excited that he has added such panache to the Utah wedding market!  He has kindly shared some photos and a bio with us so check it out!

"Three years ago, a co-worker, upon noticing my handwriting in my laboratory notebook (I moonlight as a chemist) commented: 'Did you write that? Wow, man, that’s pretty cool! You should do calligraphy. People do wedding invitations and envelopes using calligraphy.'  Initially, I thought little of this.  Then on a whim I bought a calligraphy pen: 'Let’s see where this goes…' I thought. I found I liked it. A lot. Like, a whooolllleeee lot!   When I recognized I was developing an enduring passion for calligraphy, I bought a book for instruction and contacted professional calligraphers for advice and help. One, Michele Papineau, responded in kind.  She has since become my mentor and a friend. My start to my calligraphy passion in a nutshell.

Since then my passion for calligraphy has literally flourished. I am thrilled to write names and quotes in exquisite lettering styles and fanciful flourishes. While it brings me great joy to me to hand letter in any manner, I am thrilled to do both place cards and envelopes. I believe the place card puts one’s name on the marquee. Lauren Brady of The Write Image stated, 'Invitations tell a story — the moment the envelope is opened guests know what type of wedding they will be attending.' I agree.  Since the invitation tells the story, calligraphy presents exquisite opening scenery, the prelude to an enchanting and intimate engagement. I believe my calligraphy provides that very scenery!

Fonts and flourishes, pens and ink, and styles and swirls enrapture me!  I have developed an exquisite love affair with my calligraphy pens, creating art in a variety of styles, from the whimsical to the formal to the fancy flourish. All of my lettering styles are done by hand with brass dip nibs and ink or water-based pigments such as gouache. I produce quality work and take pride in my keen sense of attention to detail, engaging my clients to encompass their vision.  It is pleasing to receive compliments on my work. Most rewarding, however, is to see the ebullience and scintillating effervescence on the faces of clients when they receive their completed works of art.  As one client stated to me: 'My guests are saving their envelopes.  They are so beautiful!'  I responded in kind, 'That’s exactly what I want.  Enthralling impressions, Enchanting memories.' My desire is to create the same impression for you, enhancing your intimate engagement with works of art and enchanting your guests.  I would be thrilled to do so.

-Ashantai

Ever notice how ‘What the Hell?’ is always the right answer?' -Marilyn Monroe"

Thank you so much Ashantai for sharing you talent, works, and a little bit about you with us!  Calligraphy is such a great detail to set your event apart and really elevate the look and feel of everything from the invitations to the place cards!  We hope this inspires you to check out Distinctive Inscriptions Calligraphy!
